Letter to the Editor Print

This letter was sent to me as editor of the tourist magazine Holiday in Puerto Pollensa, but the authors have given me permission to print it here. People are often quick to complain when anything goes wrong on their holiday, praise is rarer, and it was with great pleasure that I read this letter.

I have passed it on to the Puerto Pollensa Neighbourhood Association and to the local tourist office as requested.

Dear Ann MacDonald

I hope that you won't mind my contacting you and asking you to pass on the contents of this message to someone like Miquel Cifre, who I see from your magazine is the President of AAVV, or to anyone else appropriate.

My wife and I have just returned from our umpteenth visit to the Pollensa area and thought it was about time that we let the town authorities know how much we have appreciated the many holidays we have had in and around Puerto Pollensa. We first visited when our daughter was just over three years old and now she is 17. We have been nearly every year since then and sometimes more than once. We've travelled with three generations, with two, and now sometimes on our own.  We've stayed in hotels, apartments (tourist and residential), fincas and villas, and we've never had a bad holiday. Everyone else who has come with us has thoroughly enjoyed themselves, too.

Last Sunday evening we sat in the square for a meal and watched the procession from the church towards the sea front. The square was absolutely buzzing with people of all ages, either sitting at restaurants, going round the stalls or simply passing through, but there was none of the drunkenness, rowdiness or loutish behaviour that can ruin so many places these days. We commented on how wonderful it was to sit out and eat in such a public place on a busy Sunday evening, watching the world go by, and  feeling neither threatened, uncomfortable, nor even out of place.

As far as we are concerned Pollensa is the perfect holiday destination for us and when we round the bend in the road near Pollensa golf course and see the valley below and the mountains beyond, we feel we're back in our second home.

So, please, pass on our warmest thanks to those whom you think should know, for making it possible for the (extended) Cadwallader family to have enjoyed so many wonderful holidays in Puerto Pollensa and the surrounding area.

Thankfully we won't have to wait for too long before we are back:, we are bringing our daughter and her friend for a week at the end of August, because we know that they will be able to go off and enjoy themselves on their own without any worries.

Yours sincerely
Les (& Effie) Cadwallader
